As it leads the way in meeting the needs of the general aviation community, Sheltair, one of nation’s premier aviation FBO and Real Estate service companies, continues to expand and invest in state-of-the-art hangar facilities at St. Pete-Clearwater International Airport (PIE) that serves Florida’s Tampa Bay area.
With the vision to recognize new opportunities to support emerging jet business operations, Sheltair acquired the PIE assets of AvAero Services, LLC with two hangars, a 20,000 gallon fuel farm, extensive ramp space and over 20 acres of prime airport land. Sheltair invested some $8 million to significantly expand its hangar capacity at PIE in 2009 and over the next year will see additional millions invested in the newly acquired facilities.
Two new hangars consisting of over 100,000 sq. ft. of space capable of accommodating the large cabin class aircraft are coming on line as is over 30,000 square feet of office, shops and warehouse space, all capable of being subdivided to fit out the specific entities space requirements. Sheltair is also planning additional hangar development and expansion on the additional 20 acres.
“Sheltair is proud of its excellent relationship with Pinellas County and the airport. We remain bullish on the long term general aviation growth at St. Pete-Clearwater as we believe that economic development will continue to advance in the region,” stated Sheltair chairman and CEO, Jerry Holland.
St. Pete-Clearwater International Airport Director Tom Jewsbury said, “With over 70% of our operations from general and corporate aviation, Sheltair is an important part of PIE. Sheltair’s growth of its facilities and operations is excellent news for our local economy.”
Todd Anderson, Sheltair Senior Vice President for Real Estate and Development, explained, “This acquisition and subsequent infrastructure investments provide Sheltair with an excellent long-term strategic real estate and development opportunity that reflects our confidence in airport management and the strength of the local economy.”
The expansion will allow Sheltair to not only offer new hangar and office space at PIE, but offer additional support that satisfies its base and transient hangar and aircraft parking needs.
